The first generation was introduced in 1999 and was available with three or five doors. The car was based on the fifth generation of the Daihatsu Mira (L700 / 710). The drive was taken over by the 660 cm³ "EF" as a naturally aspirated engine or with a turbocharger . In addition to front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive was also available. Basically there was a 4- speed automatic transmission .

An unusual development was the installation of the 1.0 liter “EJ” engine in the Mira Gino 1000, which was introduced in August 2002 and was offered in some European countries. This version was no longer in the Japanese kei car class due to the larger engine and was also slightly longer and wider due to the enlarged bumper and fenders. The larger engine generated 64 hp (47 kW) just like the 660 cm³ turbo engine, but offered significantly more power at lower engine speeds. Only 1290 pieces of the Gino 1000 were built when production of the first generation Mira Gino ended in June 2004.

In 2004 the Mira Gino appeared completely revised. It was now based on the sixth generation Mira with a larger driver's cab. The interior was of very high quality and the exit and the width of the front seat were enlarged. The drive took over again the EF-660-cm³, again with 4-speed automatic transmission, front-wheel drive and 4WD optional. Over the years, the colors of the interior were changed and there was a partial suede seat. In September 2006 there was the special model Premium L with a wooden dashboard and leather interior. At the same time, the Daihatsu Trevis was presented at the 76th Geneva Motor Show, which was equipped with the three-cylinder EJ-VE engine with 1000 cc and 5-speed manual transmission. In April 2009 the production of the models ended and in Japan the Mira Gino was replaced by the Daihatsu Mira Cocoa , while the Trevis remained without a successor.
