The Daihatsu Boon Luminas was a small minivan based on the Daihatsu Boon II. After a break of almost 4 years, the Daihatsu Atrai 7 got a successor. Daihatsu also produced a sister model for parent company Toyota , the Toyota Passo Sette .
Because women were the main target group as buyers, emphasis was placed on ease of use of the vehicle. The models were produced in the Daihatsu Kyōto factory. In addition, Perodua produced an identical vehicle as the Perodua Alza , so Perodua was also involved in the development of the model series.
In December 2008, the Boon Luminas went on sale in Japan . The monthly sales target was announced with 500 units. Compared to the Boon, the height grew by 20 mm, the width by 85 mm and the length by 580 mm. As a result, seven adults could find enough space in the vehicle. While there were 2 seats in the second row, there was a three-seater bench in the third row. This could be lowered into the floor and the seats in the 2nd row could be folded down. Since the Luminas was considerably heavier than the Boon, it also got a larger engine. This was the Daihatsu 3SZ-VE type 1.5L DOHC four-cylinder gasoline engine with an output of 80 kW (109 PS) at 6000 / min and a maximum torque of 141 Nm at 4400 / min. Its power was basically transmitted to the front wheels by means of a 4-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive was also available as an option. The gearbox was located in the center console. Front airbags , an anti-lock braking system with brake assist and electronic brake force distribution were installed as standard equipment . The electronic stability program VSC as well as side airbags, head airbags and knee airbags could also be ordered. The Toyota Passo Sette was fitted with a CD radio, side and head airbags as standard. However, it was a good 20% more expensive. With a few exceptions, both models were only offered in the home market. Production of the Daihatsu and Toyota models ended in February 2012.
The Perodua Alza is still being built. It differs in its simpler material equipment, and there are only front airbags and ABS with brake assist as standard. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and the automatic transmission is only available as an option.
