history

In mid-1995 the Baleno came onto the market as a hatchback and notchback. The station wagon followed in summer 1996.

The wheelbase was 2480 mm. The hatchback version was 3870 mm long, the notchback sedan and station wagon were 4375 mm long. The width was 1695 mm and the height 1395 mm. The curb weight was given as 845 to 920 kg.

Facelift

In the spring of 1999 the Baleno received a facelift and from that point on was equipped with so-called "fish-eye clear glass headlights".

The Baleno, together with the Swift, was one of the most popular models from Suzuki . One disadvantage of the model, however, was the weak drive train (gearbox, drive shafts), which easily broke when driving fast.

The successor to the Baleno was the Suzuki Liana , which was built from autumn 2001 to the end of 2007 as a five-door hatchback and four-door notchback sedan.

history

On September 15, 2015, Suzuki presented a small car at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main , also called Baleno, which has been available from European dealers since June 2016 at prices starting at € 13,790. There is a choice of two engines: a three-cylinder with a displacement of 1.0 liters, direct injection and turbocharging (BOOSTERJET) and 82 kW (111 PS) and a four-cylinder with a displacement of 1.2 liters (DUALJET) and 66 kW (90 PS). The latter is optionally available with a “mild hybrid” system. In addition to the manual transmission, a six-speed automatic is also available. The Suzuki Baleno is currently produced in India by Maruti Suzuki .

The vehicle has also been sold as Toyota Glanza in India since June 2019 . In Germany, the vehicle was taken off the market together with the Suzuki Celerio in summer 2019. The Baleno will continue to be offered in other markets in Central Europe.

safety

In 2016, the Suzuki Baleno was tested for vehicle safety by the Euro NCAP . In the basic version, the Baleno received three out of five possible stars. However, since a safety package is optionally available for the model, the Baleno was also tested with the safety package. In this test, it received four out of five stars.
