The Toyota Granvia was a large van manufactured by the Japanese automaker Toyota . It was available as a seven- or eight-seater. The Granvia began selling in Japan in 1995, in Australia as Hiace SBV . A 2.7-liter petrol engine or a 3.0-liter diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox or 4-speed automatic gearbox was used as the drive. A panel van and minibus were also developed from the Granvia and were offered in Europe as Toyota Hiace from 1996 onwards, along with other markets . From 1997 the Granvia was also available with all-wheel drive , which now has different equipment than the Toyota Regiuswas offered. At the same time, a 3.4-liter V6 petrol engine was offered. The Nissan Elgrand was launched in August 1999 and became a hit. As a result, Toyota got into trouble, and the interior of the Granvia / Regius was completely redesigned and given a higher quality. The front and the design of the taillights and alloy wheels have been changed. In addition, sliding doors were now standard on both sides. The 3.4-liter petrol engine received a revised electronic control and the 3.0-liter turbodiesel was given a charge air cooler for more power and lower consumption. At the same time, a successor was feverishly worked on, which appeared in May 2002 as the Toyota Alphard , whereby the production of the Granvia / Regius has now been discontinued.
In the UK, importing the Granvia as a used car is very popular. Used cars imported from Japan are also sought after in New Zealand and the version with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine is particularly popular, as this has a high torque with moderate power, which is particularly suitable for mountainous areas, especially since New Zealand has a general speed limit of 100 km / h exists. Many of these vehicles are used for commercial passenger transport.
