With the Mark II Qualis (Japanese: マ ー ク II ク オ リ ス) there was again a modern station wagon under the model name Mark II from April 1997 . Although the notchback model and the new Qualis looked very similar, the vehicle parts were not identical. Forced by this difference, Toyota ran the Mark II Qualis as a completely separate model range. The additional name was adapted from the Toyota Qualis off-road vehicle built in India .

The standard version of the Mark II Qualis with a 4-cylinder engine (2.2 l) was available. A 2.5-liter gasoline engine was offered in the middle version. The top version, on the other hand, was a petrol engine with a displacement of 3.0 l.

In December 2001 the production of the Toyota Mark II Qualis ran out and was then replaced in January 2002 by the Toyota Mark II BLIT .
