The Toyota Room is a five-seater minivan that Toyota first presented in 1997 and then in a second generation in May 2003. Currently it is mainly offered in Japan . The model is manufactured by Central Motor, a company belonging to the Toyota Group .

The name of the car is borrowed from German and is intended to indicate the size of the interior with relatively small external dimensions. This is achieved because the two front doors are designed as folding doors, while the rear doors are sliding doors. There are no B-pillars, which means that the entire door opening is available for passengers to enter. So the room has a similar door concept to the Nissan Prairie .

To make it easier to get on the rear bench, the front passenger seat can be folded up and folded forward. The rear seats can be folded down in a 60:40 ratio to create a cargo area with a level floor.

The selector lever of the automatic transmission is mounted on the dashboard. This creates a free aisle between the two front seats, which enables access to the rear seats.

The first generation was in the better versions G and E with electronic brake force distribution (EBD). This extra was later also available in version C. In August 1999 there was a small facelift .

A whole new body was presented on May 12, 2003. This model had the same platform as the Vitz . The side impact protection has been further improved. The rear door on the passenger side could now be opened by an electric motor, also with the remote control. In this second generation the petrol engine of the Prius was installed.

On October 20, 2003, the car won the Japanese Good Design Award (price for good construction), especially because it is also suitable for people with physical disabilities. A new equipment variant (C Package NEO) was offered in 2004 ( N EW E RA O PENING). The DVD-based navigation system has been replaced by a hard drive-controlled one, as well as a cabin filter and HID lamps in the headlights.

From the 2007 model, the Toyota navigation system G-BOOK and telematics were only available as an extra for the Japanese market .

The prices for the 2009 model year start at ¥ 1,596,000.00, for the most expensive version at ¥ 1,984,500.00.
