education

Germany

The first institute for telematics in Germany was founded in 1982 at the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe (TH). Since 1999, a bachelor's / master's degree in telematics has been developed as a model course at the TH Wildau near Berlin. It has been internationally certified as a consecutive course since 2001/2002 . The University of Göttingen also has a chair for telematics and the University of Lübeck has its own institute for telematics.

The German telematics company TelematicsPro e. V. was founded in 1998 as a professional association . It has set itself the task of making telematics known and supporting it. She takes the position that telematics is an independent cross-sectional technology and can be the basis for many future systems, services and application solutions in information systems linked by communication technology. TelematicsPro eV has since merged into the new association "ITS Germany - German Society for Intelligent Transport Systems - Intelligent Transport Systems Germany eV".

Austria

A telematics course has existed since 1985, but corresponds more to engineering informatics (originally a 10-semester diploma course, today divided into 6 semesters bachelor's and 4 semesters master's degree) at the Graz University of Technology . This course includes both computer science and electrical engineering. In 2015 the study name Telematics was abolished and the international study name Information & Computer Engineering was introduced.

IBM Herrenberg: At the IBM Informatik Akademie, particularly qualified scientists and professionals can obtain certification as telematics engineers in an additional course at a cooperating university.
