The Curren is a notchback coupé from the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota and was produced for their home market from 1994 to 1998. A limited number of the curren were also sold in the Caribbean, Southeast Asia, South Africa and the USA. Predecessor of Curren was produced in small series 2000VX . Sister models were the Celica and the Carina ED .

The model was based on the Celica in the US version. The Curren was available in the five interior versions XS , XS Tourist , ZS , FS and TS . Although the interior of the FS, XS and ZS versions was similar, the other model versions were equipped with their own dashboard and instrument panels, which not only differed in appearance, but each had a different arrangement of the instruments.

The FS and XS were equipped with a four-cylinder 3S-FE engine and had an output of 103 kW (140 PS). The ZS was available in two gearbox versions. The motorization here was a 3S-GE Twin Cam Sport with an output of 125 kW (170 PS) for the automatic transmission or 132 kW (180 PS) for the manual transmission. The TS, on the other hand, was available with the 92 kW (125 PS) 4S-FE.

The sports version of the Curren GT-FOUR did not appear until July 1996 and was delivered with a 5-speed manual transmission or, on request, with a 4-speed automatic. In contrast to the other Curren models, the GT-FOUR had permanent all-wheel drive. At the same time, the sporty TRD model was set up, which was equipped with the 132 kW 3S-GE. Only 300 units of the TRD model were produced per month.

The first changes to the curren took place in October 1995. Power steering and driver airbags became standard. Toyota made external changes to the bumper and gave the Curren new taillights. The TRD model launched in July 1996 also offered a passenger airbag, ABS and tinted windows as standard. When production ended in December 1998, 44,686 units of the Curren had been produced by then.
