The Toyota Prius c (the c stands for "city") is a passenger car made by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota , which uses a gasoline / electric hybrid drive called Hybrid Synergy Drive . In Japan the vehicle is sold as Toyota Aqua . The small car is not offered in Europe. The Prius c is the third member of the Prius family, but takes over the hybrid drive from the Toyota Yaris . Until the introduction of the fourth generation of the Prius in early 2016, the Prius c was considered by the EPA to be the most efficient hybrid vehicle among the non- plug-in hybrids.

Prius c concept

At the North American International Auto Show 2011 in Detroit , Toyota presented a concept vehicle to the public with the Prius c concept . Toyota explained that the c stands for "city" -centric and that the vehicle should appeal to a younger target group without families.

Production vehicle

The production vehicle of the Aqua was presented to the public at the Tokyo Motor Show 2011, the production version of the Prius c celebrated its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2012. Sales of the Aqua started in Japan in December 2011, and the Prius c followed in the United States and Canada in March 2012.

At the Los Angeles Auto Show 2014, Toyota presented a revised version that was launched in 2015. The vehicle has been sold in a crossover look since 2017 . In addition, the Aqua has been available in Japan as a Gazoo Racing version since September 2017 .

In 2013 and 2014 the Aqua was the best-selling vehicle in Japan. Over 80 percent of the hybrid vehicle is manufactured for the Japanese market.
