The Toyota Verossa was a sedan made by Toyota in Japan . It was mainly sold in Japan and was never officially exported.
After production of the Chaser and Cresta models was discontinued in 2000 , Toyota replaced both sedans with the Verossa in 2001, the styling of which was very controversial. The new model received the same model code as its predecessor and also had a front engine and rear-wheel drive.
The Verossa was powered by an in-line six-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts and 24 valves, which delivered outputs between 160 bhp (118 kW) and 280 bhp (206 kW). The 2.0-liter engine was of the 1G-FE type, the two 2.5-liter engines of the 1JZ-FSE or 1JZ-GTE types. The 2.0-liter model was also available with all-wheel drive .
In 2003 production of the Verossa was stopped due to poor sales.
