The Toyota Coaster is a minibus manufactured by Toyota in Japan . The coaster sold in Australia has 21 seats (including the driver). It is powered by a 4.0 l R6 turbo diesel engine.
The coaster is also common in Hong Kong; many minibus operators use it. The Toyota LPG Coaster runs on liquid gas and is often used in urban areas to reduce air pollution. Its exhaust gases are not as harmful and contain neither black smoke nor fine dust particles. In Hong Kong, many smaller public buses and some ambulances run on LPG.
The Toyota Coaster is also used in local public transport in Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia . These buses were mainly imported from Asia and converted in accordance with the traffic regulations applicable there (to left-hand drive, with the door for the passengers on the right).
The coaster is also often found in developing countries, where reliability and low cost have made it the ideal model for minibus operators in Africa , the Middle East and the Caribbean . The chassis of the coaster is also used for the Salvador Caetano Optimo .
