The Nissan Civilian ( kana : 日 産 ・ シ ビ リ ア ン) is a bus built by Nissan and UD Trucks Corporation . It is available as a public bus in the city and as a coach. In Japan, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and South America, its main competitors are the Mitsubishi Fuso Rosa, the Isuzu Journey and the Toyota Coaster .

Nissan Hikaru / Bei Han (1959–1962)

Originally this model range was based on the Nissan Caball KC42 truck. In 1959 the Nissan Hikaru, a minibus for military purposes, was presented on its platform . As a civil version it was called Nissan Bei Han .

Nissan Echo C140-C142 (1962-1966)

In 1962 the Hikaru was revised and the name changed to Nissan Echo. The drive was taken over by the SD22 diesel engine.

Nissan Echo C240 ​​(1966-1971)

With a fundamental revision of the body in 1966, the ED30 engine was added.

Nissan Civilian C240-C341 (1971–1981)

In 1971 there was a revision of the design and the bus was named Nissan Civilian. Engines were now the diesel engines H20, SD22, ED30 and ED33 from Nissan.

Nissan Civilian W40 (1982–1988)

In 1982 the Civilian W40 model came on the market, with Nissan ED33, Z22, SD33 and FD33T engines.

Nissan Civilian W40 (1988-1995)

This was revised in 1988 and offered with the ED33, TD42 and ED35 engines from Nissan and optional air suspension . Since 1993 the Civilian has also been offered as the Isuzu Journey .

Nissan Civilian W40 / Isuzu Journey (1995–1999)

In 1995 this version was revised again and offered until 1999 with the engines ED35, TD42, TD42T from Nissan and 4HG1 from Isuzu. All-wheel drive was now available as an option.

Nissan Civilian / Isuzu Journey W41 (since 1999)

The type W41, which has been built since 1999, is mainly offered in Japan and various countries in Central and South America. It usually has 26 seats, plus a space in front of the rear window, one between the axle and the door and the driver's seat. In earlier models, the driver's seat was outside the interior and the driver had to stand and steer the bus.

Known users

The former dictator of Panama , Manuel Noriega , had in his tenure at least one Nissan Civilian for his personal transportation needs. It was a fully equipped luxury version with amenities such as a TV, toilet and kitchenette.
