The Mitsubishi eK is a Japanese kei car that was built by Mitsubishi Motors on the basis of the Minica, which was built until 2011 , and launched on October 11, 2001 at a price of ¥ 910,000 to ¥ 1,108,000. According to the company, the name stands for " e xcellent K eijidōsha" (= excellent small car).

Between 2005 and 2013 Nissan received 36,000 eK delivered annually, which were sold as Nissan Otti . From 2013 the Otti was replaced by the Nissan Dayz and the Nissan Dayz Roox .

The first generation is available as an eK Wagon (from October 2001), eK Sport (from September 2002), eK Classic (from May 2003) or eK Active (from May 2004).

Immediately after its launch, the car received an award for good design from the Japanese Ministry of Economy and Industry for 2001. Initially, 10,000 sales per month were expected; but then 13,000 copies were sold in the first four days and by the end of October 2001 there were already 20,000 copies. It is Mitsubishi's top-selling model in the domestic market, with around 480,000 units sold in 2005.

The 5-door station wagons offer four seats. They are equipped with three-cylinder in-line engines that are installed transversely at the front and drive the front wheels. There are also variants with all-wheel drive .

The engines have Mitsubishi coding 3G83 and are equipped with an overhead camshaft (SOHC) and 12 valves. The cubic capacity is a uniform 657 cm 3 . The aspirated developed at a compression ratio of 10.2: a power of 50 HP (37 kW) at 6500 min 1 -1 and a torque of 62 Nm at 4000 min -1 . A turbocharger connected, are the corresponding values: Compression 8.5: 1, power 64 HP (47 kW) at 6000 min -1 and 93 Nm torque at 3500 min -1 .

The front wheels are suspended from MacPherson struts and wishbones, the rear wheels are guided by wishbones. The eK Wagon model has 155/65 R 13 tires, the eK Sport 165/55 R 14. In each case, the turning circle diameter is 8.8 m.

The third generation was introduced in September 2013. It is offered by Mitsubishi as eK Custom , eK Wagon , eK Space Custom and eK Space . In addition, the variant sold by Nissan is no longer sold as Otti but as Dayz or Dayz Roox .
