The Nissan Gazelle is a small three-door station wagon that Nissan , based on the S platform, only manufactured for the Japanese and Australian markets. The Gazelle is the sister model of the Nissan Silvia . It was launched so that Nissan's various dealer networks in Japan could all offer the Silvia. There are only cosmetic differences between the two model series. Both the Silvia S110 and the Silvia S12 have a counterpart in the Gazelle model range.

In Japan, the Silvia S12 was only available in the basic version as a station wagon coupé from autumn 1983 to mid-1989, while the Gazelle S12, which was only available there as a station wagon coupé, was ordered as the basic model, RS and RS-X (like the Silvia sedan) could.

In Australia the station wagon and sedan of the S12 were only sold as a Gazelle (there was no Silvia there) and were available in the GL and GLX equipment.

When the Nissan Silvia of the S13 series was introduced in autumn 1989 , the model name Gazelle disappeared in Japan with the successor model 180SX. In Australia there was no successor until the introduction of the 200SX in 1995.
