The Nissan R'nessa is a mid-range station wagon built from 1997 to 2001 by the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan , of which an electric version was also available, which was the world's first production electric car to use lithium-ion batteries .
R'nessa (1997-2001)
The R'nessa, introduced in autumn 1997, called MAV (“Multiple Amenity Vehicle”) by the marketing strategists, was only available as a station wagon in three model variants: with a two-liter four-cylinder (103 kW) and Front-wheel drive, a larger 2.4-liter four-cylinder (112 kW) and all-wheel drive as well as a two-liter turbo engine (147 kW), also with all-wheel drive. All engines had 4 valves per cylinder. A four-speed automatic was standard, from January 2001 a continuously variable CVT automatic.
In July 2001 the production was stopped.
R'nessa EV
In December 1997, an all-electric variant of the R'nessa was presented at the LA Auto Show . This version was only intended for the markets in Japan and the USA and was called R'nessa EV (Japan) and Altra EV (USA) there. The abbreviation EV stands for electric vehicle , resulting in German electric vehicle means.
A serves as a drive with neodymium - magnet equipped and 62 kW (83 hp) synchronous motor , which via an approximate efficiency features of 89%. The engine is fed by the lithium-ion batteries, which were installed in series production for the first time in this vehicle, and which are located under the passenger seat in the double-walled floor. The use of the new technology gives the R'nessa EV a range of 130 km and a top speed of 120 km / h. Thanks to the socket for the charging cable with electromagnetic plug integrated in the radiator grille and the inductive charging system, charging the batteries is easy and safe. The charging process takes 5 hours and the batteries were designed so that they can withstand up to 1000 charging cycles. Despite the savings concept of the R'nessa EV, it was equipped ex works with the usual safety standards and many comfort extras. Double airbags at the front, ABS, air conditioning, electric windows and central locking were on board, as was a regenerative brake to recover the braking energy.
Around 200 pieces of the R'nessa EV were made, which were mainly used by authorities and energy providers. A copy was available to rent for a short time at Los Angeles International Airport .
