The Nissan Fuga ( Japanese. フ ー ガ ) is an upper middle class sedan from the Japanese car manufacturer Nissan that has only been offered in Japan since 2004 . It is the successor to the Cedric and Gloria and has been the manufacturer's current flagship since the end of production of the high-end models President and Cima in 2010.

Since 2005, the M model series from Nissan's luxury brand Infiniti , which is also offered outside of Japan, has been structurally identical to the Fuga and thus represents its export version.

Furnishing

As standard in all equipment variants, the driver can use the so-called "Drive Mode Selector" to choose between different drive programs: Normal, Eco and Sport. These programs make changes to the drive train, stability control and the accelerator pedal, among other things. With the latter, in appropriate situations in the eco mode, slight counter pressure is used to indicate that gas can be withdrawn in order to achieve lower fuel consumption. Depending on the equipment variant, the Fuga can be equipped with electronic damper control, cruise control, distance and lane departure warning, bi- xenon headlights and other extras.

technology

Like its predecessor, the Fuga Y51 is designed only as a four-door sedan that is equipped with rear-wheel drive as standard. Since the start of sales, you can choose between two different V6 petrol engines , the more powerful of which is available with all-wheel drive. The V8 petrol engine known from its predecessor is no longer available. The transmission is a 7-speed automatic, which also has a manual mode.

Drive train of the Fuga Hybrid

At the presentation of the new Fuga, Nissan also announced a hybrid version that has been available in Japan since November 2010. The engine is a specially adapted 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine that is connected to a 50 kW electric motor and the automatic transmission via two parallel clutches. This light and fuel-saving design makes a classic torque converter superfluous. The electric motor was also designed for higher speeds so that the Fuga Hybrid can reach speeds of more than 100 km / h with a purely electric drive. A lithium-ion accumulator from Automotive Energy Supply serves as energy storage for the electric drive , which is also supplied with energy by a regenerative braking system .

With the introduction of this hybrid system, the Fuga is the first self-developed vehicle of this type from Nissan. There was already a hybrid version of the Altima , but the more complicated technology from the manufacturer Toyota was used.

Nissan's proprietary Approaching Vehicle Sound for Pedestrians (AVSP) safety system is used to prevent accidents between pedestrians and the hybrid vehicle, which is almost silent in electric driving mode . When driving up to 30 km / h, when the speed is reduced below 25 km / h and when reversing, this automatically generates a sound that alerts bystanders.
