The first-generation Nissan Rogue is powered exclusively by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with 125 kW (170 hp). In the basic version, the power is transmitted to the front wheels by a continuously variable Xtronic CVT automatic transmission; however, all-wheel drive is also available as an option. This recognizes different driving situations and distributes the power between the front and rear axles accordingly. When accelerating, the power is distributed 50:50 percent for the purpose of better traction, during normal driving only the front wheels are driven and the power distribution is variable in curves.
The basic version S and the higher-quality SL equipment are available as equipment. As standard, the Rogue S is equipped with ABS , VSC , traction control, active head restraints and six airbags, as well as air conditioning, electric windows and CD radio. The SL version also has 17-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, tinted rear windows and an electrically adjustable driver's seat. Fog lights, a Bose sound system with CD changer, gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, a Bluetooth hands-free system, heated leather seats, a sunroof, xenon headlights and a keyless entry system are available for an extra charge.
In August 2010 the rogue was revised.
After the introduction of the successor model in 2013, the first generation was built until 2015 as Rogue Select until 2015. However, it was only available in the United States.
