For the Almera there are engines from 75 to 143 HP available. Production of the N16 was stopped in autumn 2006 for the main markets. The successor is the Nissan Tiida .
In Central and South America and in countries in the Middle East, the four-door notchback version of the second Almera continued to be offered with 1.6 and 1.8 liter engines. However, the vehicle was offered partly under the name Almera and partly as Sunny , in some cases also in the version revised in autumn 2002.
In October 2011, Nissan launched a revised model of the Latio as the Almera in Thailand.

The second generation (type N16) of the Almera appeared in March 2000. At first it was available as a three- and five-door hatchback . The conservative notchback sedan followed in July .
New to the range, however, was the compact van, also available from July 2000, which was sold as the Almera Tino .
There were petrol engines with 1497 cm³ displacement and 66/72 kW (90/98 PS) output or 1769 cm³ and 84 kW / 114 PS (also in connection with a harmonious 4-stage automatic), as well as diesel engines with 1460 cm³ and 60 kW (82 PS) or 2184 cm³ and 82 kW (112 PS) or 100 kW (136 PS) to choose from.
Facelift
In October 2002 the Almera underwent a revision of the optics and the technology. In addition, new diesels were introduced by Renault, which could show more power through direct injection. The notchback was taken off the market in Germany, which was due to the recent drop in demand.
From February 2006 the Almera was only available with the 1.5 liter petrol engine.
In October 2006, the production of the Nissan Almera was finally stopped. The successor to the successful, because reliable, Almera in Europe was taken over by the Nissan Tiida in early 2008 , which was launched in Japan at the end of 2004.
