The Nissan Hypermini was a model of the Japanese automobile brand Nissan , which was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1997 and had gone into series production.

After the presentation of the Hyperminis, Nissan received many inquiries about the series maturity of the Hyperminis. In late 1998 the first vehicles from series production were delivered to customers. The price of one copy was 4,015,000 yen . The customers came mainly from Japan. A few copies were also sold in Hong Kong and Singapore . A total of 220 copies were produced.

drive

The Hypermini was equipped with a traction battery with 15 kWh capacity, 400 V nominal voltage and an energy density of 90 Wh / kg from lithium-ion accumulators . The maximum speed was 100 km / h, the range was 115 km in Japan 10-15 test mode. Its electric motor delivered up to 24 kW of power, had a maximum torque of 130 Nm and a maximum speed of 6700 rpm.

The Hypermini offered a maximum of two people.

The traction battery of the Hypermini was attached under the floor pan and was inductively charged. The non-contact charging system with a built-in coil generated a high-frequency magnetic field. A portable charger could be carried so that the car could be charged at any socket. Nissan claimed the Hypermini could get by for one-fifth the cost of a gasoline-powered vehicle.

Furnishing

The Hypermini was equipped with a navigation , information and communication system that automatically led the driver back to the rental company at the push of a button or informed the nearest control center about errors. In addition, a warning device was installed in the car, which informed the driver that the battery charge was low and that the next charging station should be approached.

Production and inventory

In Japan, the Hypermini was operated on a trial basis in the cities of Kyoto (138 units), Yokohama (20 units), Ebina (15 units) and Tokyo (20 units), where Nissan was involved in three Japanese car-sharing programs. The cars were used by city officials and private citizens, 120 models were sold by Nissan. There were also experiments in Davis, California, USA in the University of California (15 pieces on November 7, 2001) and by the city council of Pasadena, also in California (11 pieces).

The 11 hyperminis in the city of Pasadena were taken back by Nissan in August 2006 after the leases had expired. Nissan claimed that the Hypermini were no longer in production and could no longer be serviced. However, there are suspicions that the lobby of the oil industry is stopping the production of electric cars, so the production of other electric car models (e.g. General Motors EV1 or Toyota RAV4 EV ) was soon discontinued.

Occasionally a copy of the Hypermini is still in public sale in Japan.
