The Nissan Winner is an off-road vehicle and was introduced to Middle Eastern markets in 1995.

In three years of work and numerous extreme tests, the Winner was developed on the D22 platform. The aim for Nissan was to develop an off-road vehicle that would have no problems in the desert with long distances, rapid weather changes, deep sand holes with light sand (quicksand), as well as high and very uneven mountain ridges and stone deserts. The result was finally presented in 1995. As with almost all other D22 platform-based models, the manufacturer used vehicle parts from the Nissan pick-up .

The winner was characterized by strong and hard suspension, a ground clearance of 63 cm and an aluminum underbody protection painted in the vehicle color. The model also stands out because of the bumpers; these protrude far beyond the width of the vehicle at the front and rear in order to provide more safety and protection for the body. There are no other vehicle parts developed for the model.

Despite the apparent safety, the model had considerable defects, which made the model a slow-moving:

  • The underbody protection, which extends from the front bumper to the rear bumper, is only 1.50 meters wide and contains unprotected gaps, especially in the engine area and in the suspension.
  • No designed protection for unprotected vehicle parts
  • only driver and front passenger airbag with space for 8 to 10 people
  • Seat belts for driver and front passenger only

Despite requests from the Assembly Plant near Dubai to correct this serious error, Nissan refused to comply. After two years of production ( CKD kits were used), the model finally had to be discontinued due to insufficient demand.

Winner's key competitors who were far more successful:

Nissan winners are very rare to see these days and difficult to locate. These are already a rarity among car clubs in the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
