The third generation Nissan Navara with the internal code D40 was presented in March 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show . It resembles the Nissan Pathfinder up to the A-pillar and represents its pickup version. Therefore, the two vehicles share a technical basis and use different components together. Like the Pathfinder, the Navara has a ladder frame chassis, independent front suspension with triangular wishbones and a rigid rear axle with leaf springs. When driving, the rear axle is driven, but the all-wheel drive can be activated at a ratio of 50:50 percent. This generation is available as an extra cabin ( King Cab ) or as a double cabin (Double Cab).

A 2.5 liter common rail diesel engine with variable turbine geometry is available as a motor. The engine has an output of 128 kW (174 hp) with a torque of 403 Nm. The larger engine has since been revised and then developed 126 kW (171 hp). On the non-European markets there is also a 4.0-liter V6 petrol engine with 198 kW (269 hp)

Nissan Navara (since 2007)

Towards the end of 2007 the Navara received a slight facelift . For the exterior there are now two new exterior paintwork and redesigned light alloy rims. The side indicators were moved from the fenders to the exterior mirrors. New materials and fabrics are used in the interior. As a new extra, there is a Bluetooth hands-free system for all versions.

In addition to the three equipment versions XE (basic), SE (comfort) and LE (luxury), a special model called White Elements was launched by Navara in December 2007 . This includes carving skis, black 17-inch light alloy wheels with winter tires, a ski carrier system and a storage box for the loading area. Inside there are heated, black leather seats and, for a surcharge, the Executive package with DVD navigation system, MP3-CD radio and voice recognition. In 2008, Platinum was added as a further equipment version for the double-cabin models. In addition to the LE equipment, this includes heated and electrically adjustable full leather seats, a Bose sound system, a DVD navigation system with a reversing camera, a sliding glass roof, 17-inch alloy wheels and various decorative elements in Gun Metal Gray.

In March 2010, another facelift model of the Navara was presented at the Geneva Motor Show . This is characterized by a new grille, different headlights and a less angular front bumper. New surfaces are used in the interior and the arrangement of the controls in the center console has been revised. New to the range are a special touchscreen navigation system, xenon headlights and a reversing camera. The 2.5-liter diesel engine has been modified and now has an output of 140 kW (190 hp), has a torque of 450 Nm and consumes an average of 8.4 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, less than the previous model. Also new to the range is a 3.0-liter V6 diesel with an output of 170 kW (231 hp) and 550 Nm of torque, which meets the Euro 5 emissions standard and has a trailer load of 3.0 tonnes. Sales of the facelifted Navara began in April and July 2010 (V6 models).

The vehicles for the continental European market were manufactured in Spain . For the South American market, however, production in São José dos Pinhais , Brazil , continues.

safety

In 2008 the Nissan Navara achieved a maximum of five stars in the Euro NCAP crash test. However, this was withdrawn because of the risk that the driver could seriously injure himself in the neck area. Nissan then improved the airbag control and started a recall campaign in which all vehicles that had already been delivered received a software update. In another crash test by Euro-NCAP, the modified Navara achieved three out of five possible stars.

The fourth generation (D231), which is built in Barcelona , came to dealers in Germany in January 2016. This will replace the third generation version built in the one-tonne flatbed truck segment since 2005. The new Navara is powered by a 2.3 liter diesel engine, which is offered in two output levels. The engine power is transmitted either via a manual six-speed gearbox or via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. In addition, Renault began building their own pickup trucks in 2017 with the Alaskan and Mercedes-Benz in 2018 with the X-Class based on the Navara.

In the first full year of sales, 3,582 units of the Navara were newly registered.
