It is 673 m from Maffeiplatz underground station and 752 m from Hasenbuck underground station . Until September 23, 1975 it was the terminus for the U1 line. It is used by around 21,900 passengers every day.

Location and infrastructure

The station is located in the Nuremberg district of Hummelstein and extends underground in a north-south direction under Pillenreuther Strasse between Lothringerstrasse and Frankenstrasse ( Südring / B 4 R ). From the northern head of the platform, a staircase leads to a distribution floor under Pillenreuther Strasse and from there to its west and east side. From the southern head a staircase leads to a distribution floor under the intersection of Pillenreuther- / Katzwanger- / Frankenstraße and from there to all corners of the intersection and to the bus station . An elevator leads from the north end of the station to the surface in the middle of Pillenreuther Strasse. At the station there is a pointy track change in the direction of Fürth and a butt in the direction of Langwasser .

Building and architecture

The construction work for the 225 m long station structure began on December 6, 1971 and was carried out in the open construction method with Berlin shoring . The elevator was upgraded in 1983. The southern distribution floor is unusually spacious, as a shopping arcade was originally planned here, but this was never realized.

The color of the subway station is blue . The platform walls, tiled with ceramic tiles, are blue from the floor to the level of the platform edge, then white, interrupted by the band with the platform name (white writing on a blue background) and then blue again up to the ceiling. The round support columns are also tiled in blue.

The station was modernized from September 1, 2016 to the beginning of 2018. Among other things, the seats on the wooden benches and the rubbish baskets were replaced and the platform edges, where the concrete was already crumbling, were modernized. At the bus stops the flooring was renewed and equipped with guide plates for the blind.
