The Fürth Hardhöhe underground station (abbreviation: HF ) is the 41st  underground station on the Nuremberg-Fürth underground railway and was opened on December 8, 2007. It is 910 m from the Fürth Klinikum underground station and is the terminus of the U1 line. A double track change adjoins the station in the direction of Langwasser Süd, the two main tracks were continued to the west and serve as stabling tracks for two double railcars each. The underground station was named after the Hardhöhe district of Fürth, which was built in the late 1950s and is located in the center. It is used by around 10,500 passengers every day.

location

The station is located in the Hardhöhe district of Fürth and extends underground in an east-west orientation in a slight right-hand bend under Komotauer Strasse between Leibnizstrasse and Soldnerstrasse. Exits from both platform heads lead directly to the surface. An elevator connects the western end of the platform with Komotauer Straße. In the long term, an extension of the U1 to the planned Kieselbühl underground station in the west of the Hardhöhe is planned, but it is currently very unlikely to be realized.

Building and architecture

The construction work for the 187 m long train station began on June 28, 2005 and was carried out using the open construction method using the mixed-in-place method, with subsequent covering of the excavation pit.

For the architectural design, the design department of the Georg-Simon-Ohm University in Nuremberg announced a design competition, which was won by the student Dong Guanni. With the help of Professors Ethelbert Hörmann and Ortwin Michl as well as the architect Werner Kittel from the civil engineering department in Nuremberg, their design, which is supposed to remind of the mirror production in Fürth, was realized. The train station is supplied with daylight by five light domes and the glazed elevator and thus appears very bright. The platform walls are not clad in contrast to the attached mirror slats, the ceiling is painted blue . A folded structure with colorful patterns is attached to the platform ceiling , which reflects the incident light in the mirror slats. Depending on where you stand on the platform, the viewer sees a different color pattern.
