Local railway Melnik – Mscheno

The local railway Melnik – Mscheno (Czech: Místní dráha Mělník – Mšeno ) was a private local railway company in today's Czech Republic . The company was the owner of the local railways between Mělník ( Melnik ) and Mšeno ( Mscheno ) or Střednice in Central Bohemia, guaranteed by the Crown Land of Bohemia .

history

Several local sugar and paper manufacturers were interested in building the Melnik – Mscheno local railway and applied for the concession. On January 18, 1896, Victor Vávra and Gustav Pöschl from Mělník were granted the concession to "a standard-gauge local train from the Melnik station of the privileged Austrian Northwest Railway to Mšeno with a branch from Lhotka to Středenitz and a siding from Melnik to the Elbe" build. The company's share capital totaled 793,000 kroner in 3,687 common shares of 200 kroner each and 278 priority shares of 200 kroner each.

On June 22nd, 1897, the line from Mělník to Mšeno was opened with the branch to Střednice and the tugboat to the port.

The operation was carried out by the Österreichische Nordwestbahn (ÖNWB) on behalf of the local railway Melnik – Mscheno . After its nationalization in 1907, the management was transferred to the kk Austrian State Railways (kkStB). After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways ČSD took the place of the kkStB .

On January 1, 1925, the local railway Melnik – Mscheno was nationalized by law and the lines were integrated into the ČSD network.

The line Lhotka u Mělníka – Střednice was closed in 1975, the main connection Mělník – Mšeno and the tugboat to the port still exist.

Locomotives

1M MĚLNÍK

In 1897 the ÖNWB acquired two Krauss locomotives in Linz for the account of the Melnik – Mscheno local railway . A third, much heavier locomotive was supplied by the Bohemian-Moravian Machine Factory in Prague in 1903 . The locomotives had the company numbers 1M to 3M and the names MĚLNÍK , MŠENO and LABE . The kkStB ran them as series 262 , the ČSD as 311.4. They were retired by 1937.
