The Lhotka u Mělníka – Střednice railway was a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed local railway Melnik – Mscheno . It branched off in Lhotka u Mělníka from the Mělník – Mšeno railway line and led to Střednice in Daubian Switzerland .

history

The line Lhotka u Mělníka – Střednice was licensed on January 18, 1896 together with the connection from Melnik to Mšeno as a local railway guaranteed by state law .

The Prague construction company Jan Kruliš took over the construction of the route based on a project by engineer J. Konvařík. As early as autumn 1896, the line was made to the point that provisional freight traffic to the sugar factory in Střednice could be carried out during the beet campaign . The line was finally completed in the early summer of 1897. On June 22, 1897, the line, together with the main Mělník – Mšeno line, was officially opened for passenger and freight traffic. The kk privileged Österreichische Nordwestbahn took over the management on behalf of the owner . After their nationalization, this task was transferred to the Imperial and Royal State Railways on January 1, 1907 .

A project from 1914 provided for an extension of the line via Kokořín to Dubá ( Dauba ). The First World War lost by Austria and the ensuing establishment of Czechoslovakia made this plan obsolete. On October 28, 1918, management was transferred to the newly established Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD).

At the beginning of the 1920s, the traffic performance on the local railway reached its peak. Four mixed pairs of trains drove daily at that time. In Lhotka u Mělníka they always had access to the trains to and from Mělník.

On January 1, 1925, the local railway company Melnik – Mscheno was nationalized and the line was integrated into the ČSD network. From then on it was administered by the State Railway Directorate (Ředitelství státních drah) in Hradec Králové .

During the Great Depression in the early 1930s, traffic performance sank to a minimum. The tourist traffic was then stopped on July 1, 1933. However, the route remained in operation for freight traffic. Mainly agricultural products, especially sugar beets and beet pulp, were transported. It was only when beet transport was completely shifted to the road in the 1950s and 1960s that the route lost its importance. At the end of the 1960s, freight trains only ran when required.

Freight traffic was officially stopped on January 1, 1970. On January 1, 1975 the line was closed and canceled until 1978.
