The Schoppershof underground station (abbreviation: SH ) is the 33rd  underground station of the Nuremberg underground and was opened on May 22, 1993. It is 650 meters from Rennweg Underground Station and 902 meters from Nordostbahnhof Underground Station. In the direction of the airport, there is a butt-to-be used platform change. Until January 27, 1996 it was the terminus for the U2 line . The underground station is named after the Nuremberg district of Schoppershof , which was incorporated in 1899 and in which it is located. It is used by around 16,900 passengers every day.

location

The station is located in the Schoppershof district of Nuremberg and extends underground in a north-south direction under the street Am Messehaus between Welser- and Wieselerstraße. From the southern head of the platform, a staircase leads directly to the surface where the Wieselerstraße / Am Messehaus converge. The northern staircase leads to a distribution floor and from there to all four corners of the intersection at Am Messehaus / Elbinger- / Welserstraße. An elevator connects the street surface with the northern platform level.

Building and architecture

The station structure is 190 m long, 15 m wide and 10 m deep (one and a half times the depth). Construction work began on July 25, 1990 and was carried out using the cut-and-cover method. In the course of the construction work, the street Am Messehaus was converted into a traffic-calmed area.

The architectural execution was carried out by the Nuremberg sculptor Kardos Botond . The inside-outside relationship between the surface and the platform level is represented by a network of steel cables that branch out on the platform wall like the roots of a tree.
