The Rennweg underground station (abbreviation: RE ) is the 32nd  underground station of the Nuremberg underground and was opened on May 22, 1993. It is 611 m from Rathenauplatz underground station and 650 m from Schoppershof underground station . In the direction of Röthenbach there is a butt to be used track change. The underground station is named after the Rennweg district of Nuremberg , in which it is located. Rennweg was created in 1818 from eleven small settlements in the northeast of Nuremberg. In 1865 the western part of Rennweg was incorporated into Nuremberg, and in 1899 the eastern part that belonged to Schoppershof was also incorporated . In the original plans, this underground station was to be named Maxfeld . It is used by around 7,800 passengers every day.

location

The station is located in the Rennweg district of Nuremberg and extends underground in a north-south direction under the Rennweg between Martin-Richter- and Ludwig-Feuerbach-Straße. Steps lead to the surface from both platform heads. An elevator leads from the southern platform area to street level. The Nuremberg city park is in the immediate vicinity .

Building and architecture

The station structure is 167 m long, 15 m wide and 10 m deep (one and a half times the depth). Construction work began on July 25, 1990 and was carried out using the cut-and-cover method. In the course of the construction work, Rennweg and Ludwig-Feuerbach-Straße were partially rebuilt and converted into traffic-calmed zones.

The architectural execution was carried out by the Nuremberg sculptor Kardos Botond. The inside-outside relationship between the surface and the platform level is established by eight skylights. The light domes in the center of the station are framed by colored ribbons that stretch from the ceiling over the platform wall to the floor. Graffiti designed by Nuremberg artists are attached to both platform walls.
