Jakobinenstrasse underground station
The underground station Jakobinenstraße (abbreviation: JA ) is the 22nd underground station of the Nuremberg underground and was opened on March 20, 1982. It is 700 m from the Fürth Hauptbahnhof underground station and 825 m from the city limits underground station . Until December 7, 1985 it was the terminus for lines U1 and U11 . Jakobinenstraße was named in 1877 after Jakobine Weigmann, the mother of a property owner in Fürth. It is used by around 14,500 passengers every day.
location
The station is located in the Stadtpark district of Fürth and extends underground in an east-west direction under Gebhardtstrasse between Jakobinenstrasse and Pickertstrasse. From the eastern head of the station, an exit leads to a distribution floor under the Gebhardtstrasse / Jakobinenstrasse intersection and from there with two ramps and a staircase to the surface and to the Jakobinenstrasse bus station; from the western head of the station, an exit leads to a distribution floor and from there to Pickertstrasse. There is also an elevator from the platform level to the eastern distribution level.
The Hornschuch promenade with its historic buildings from the Wilhelminian era and the Fürth city park are in the vicinity of the train station.
Building and architecture
The station structure is 201 m long, 20 m wide and 13 m deep (one and a half times the depth). Construction work for the station began on July 9, 1979 and was carried out using the top-down construction.
The platform walls are clad with sandstone and are closed off by the folding ceiling. An architectural innovation was the pillarless design of the platform hall. The building director Theo Kief from the Nuremberg Building Department was responsible for this design. On June 28, 2007, a mosaic was unveiled in the western distribution floor as part of the 1000th anniversary of the city of Fürth. It shows the development history of local transport in Fürth and was designed and realized by the artist Iris Rauh.
Fürth-Ost stop
At the height of today's underground station and the crossing Hornschuchpromenade / Jakobinenstraße, the Fürth-Ost stop of the Ludwig Railway , which led from Nuremberg Ludwigsbahnhof to Fürth Ludwigsbahnhof , had existed since December 7, 1835 . Its operation was stopped on October 31, 1922 due to inflation and its tracks were removed on June 5, 1925.
