Fürth Klinikum underground station
The Fürth Klinikum underground station (abbreviation: KF ) was opened on December 4, 2004 as the 40th underground station of the Nuremberg subway . It is 910 m from the Fürth Hardhöhe underground station and 957 m from the Fürth Stadthalle underground station . Until December 8, 2007 it was the terminus for the U1 line . According to earlier plans, the station was to be called Fürth Unterfarrnbach like the local train stop , and Würzburger Strasse according to even older plans . Conversely, it is now planned to rename the S-Bahn station in the course of the S-Bahn construction in Fürth Klinikum . It is used by around 11,800 passengers every day.
Location and infrastructure
The station is located in the Unterfarrnbach district of Fürth and extends underground north of Würzburger Straße between Friedrich-Ebert-Straße and the Nuremberg – Bamberg railway line . From the western end of the platform, an exit and the elevator lead directly to the surface to Karmelitenplatz, the eastern staircase leads to a distribution floor under Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse and from there with three staircases to the surface. At the station there is a double track change in the direction of Langwasser.
The Fürth Clinic is located in the immediate vicinity of the train station .
Building and architecture
The station structure, for which construction work began on June 20, 2000, is 140 m long. The Christ the King Church, which is located directly above the train station, caused difficulties. In order not to damage this during the construction work, a 60 m long tubular umbrella made of 18 steel tubes was drawn between the building and the station structure, in the protection of which the excavation pit was dug; the rest of the station section was built using the open construction method.
The design of the station was developed by the Georg-Simon-Ohm University , Department of Design, as part of a design project. The design came from Hartmut Victor Brüchert and was implemented together with Professors Ethelbert Hörmann and Ortwin Michl . The theme of the station is adapted to the surrounding buildings (clinic, kindergarten and old people's home) and reads “Building blocks of life”: the entire structure is kept in light colors and is dominated by concrete, steel and glass. Replicas of human DNA are attached to the platform walls.

The station is served by the U1 line. On the surface are the two bus stops Klinikum West and Klinikum Ost , where the city bus routes 171 , 172 and 175 as well as the OVF lines 125 and 126 stop. The Fürth Clinic, which is around 500 m away , is easier to reach via the Jakob-Henle-Straße / Klinikum stop (lines 171 and 175). The N9 night bus also runs on weekends . To the west of the station is the Fürth-Unterfarrnbach DB stop , where you can change to the S1 S-Bahn line . The S 1 also runs parallel to the U 1 at the main stations in Fürth and Nuremberg, with the journey time to Nuremberg at 13 to 15 minutes being significantly shorter than that of the U-Bahn at 24 minutes. Since the S 1 usually only runs every half hour and the platform is only accessible via a temporary staircase, using the U 1 is often the faster way. Both systems are not coordinated by direct connection routes or common departure displays.
