Alpine rescue Switzerland
The Alpine Rescue Switzerland (ARS), fr. Secours Alpin Suisse , ital. Soccorso Alpino Svizzero , rätorom. Salvament alpin Svizzer is a mountain rescue service and is responsible for mountain emergencies in the Swiss mountains (except in the canton of Valais ).

The organization includes around 3,000 mountain rescuers in 92 rescue stations. Not only doctors and part-time and full-time mountain guides work for the ARS, but also experienced hobby alpinists. Rescuing, transporting and caring for patients is practiced on a regular basis.

ARS was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Air Rescue Service (Rega) and the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) .
Functions
The rescuers of the ARS perform the following functions:
- Rescuer: Depending on the level of training, functions and responsibilities, divided into Rescuers I, II and III.
- Rescuer I: No special requirements for cooperation. If you have good local knowledge of the area around the rescue station, you also feel at home away from the paved paths. Mainly supporting function. No training and further education obligation.
- Rescuer II: Is trained in technical and medical terms. Operates the technical material effortlessly under supervision.
- Rescuer III: Already has significant experience (e.g. as a mountain guide, SAC tour leader or mountain specialist in the army). Is trained in a winter and summer rescue course. Has mastered the technical material independently, guides other ARS rescuers on missions and trains other rescuers.
- Specialist helicopter: Supports the rescue workers in areas that are difficult to access. Assess and secure alpine dangers for Rega crews. In the lowlands, these specialists support the fire brigade and Rega with complicated rescues.
- Specialist dog: Use of search dogs, either in the case of avalanche accidents or when looking for missing persons in impassable terrain.
- Canyoning specialist
- Medical specialist: medical care for patients; Training as a doctor or paramedic is required.

ARS is a foundation of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and the Swiss Air Rescue (Rega). There is a collaboration with the Spéléo Secours , the rescue organization of Swiss cave explorers.
The ARS divides Switzerland into 7 regional associations:

- Alpine Rescue Ticino SATI - Ticino
The area of the canton of Valais does not belong to the ARS; The cantonal Valais rescue organization KWRO is responsible for all rescue operations there (emergency number: 144).
