The Rothenburger Straße underground station (abbreviation: RO ) was opened as the 23rd  underground station of the Nuremberg underground on January 28, 1984. It is 762 m from St. Leonhard underground station, 929 m from Sündersbühl underground station and 970 m from Plärrer underground station . Since June 14, 2008 it has been the separation station for the U2 / U3 lines. The Rothenburger road is after the Middle Franconian town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber named. It is used by around 13,400 passengers every day.

Location and infrastructure

The station is located in the Nuremberg district of Gostenhof and extends underground in a north-south orientation next to Rothenburger Strasse between the Nuremberg – Bamberg railway line and Schlachthofstrasse. From the southern head of the platform, a staircase leads to a distribution floor and from there to the bus station as well as to the west and east side of Rothenburger Strasse. The north entrance leads directly to the surface and on to the Nürnberg - Rothenburger Straße S-Bahn station , where Line 1 of the Nürnberg S-Bahn runs. An elevator connects the southern part of the station with the bus station. At the station, in the direction of Röthenbach, there is the branch of the U3 south in the direction of Gustav-Adolf-Straße and a double track change.

Building and architecture

The station structure is 190 m long, 20 m wide and 15 m deep (twice the depth). Construction work for the station began on January 26, 1979 and was carried out using the New Austrian Tunneling Method . The depth of the structure is due to the expansion of the Frankenschnellweg , which was already planned at that time, and the passage under two main sewer collectors.

The architecture of the station is in the style of a grotto. The platform walls are made of pointed concrete.
