The Scharfreiterring underground station (abbreviation: SR ) is the 4th  underground station of the Nuremberg underground and was opened on March 1, 1972. It is 547 m from Langwasser Nord underground station and 591 m from Langwasser Mitte underground station . At the station there is a parking facility in the direction of Fürth up to the Langwasser Nord underground station and the branch to the underground depot in the direction of Langwasser. The Scharfreiterring is named after the mountain Scharfreiter in the Karwendel area. In the original plans, this underground station had the working title Kreuzburger Strasse. Since the Kreuzburger Strasse was closed when the underground depot was being built, this name could not be used. It is used by around 4,500 passengers every day.

location

The station is located in the Nuremberg district Langwasser above ground in the midst of Otto Bärnreuther Street. The only staircase at the eastern end of the platform leads to a pedestrian walkway and from there to Lina-Ammon-Straße or Scharfreiterring. The two elevators also connect the platforms with the pedestrian walkway.

Building and architecture

Construction work on the 124 m long station building began in 1967. The two elevators were retrofitted in 1987.

Because of the depot connection, the station has four tracks and two platforms . These were created in the style of the 1960s with exposed concrete , the platform roofs are each supported by nine supports.

In 2015, the station was extensively modernized and received, among other things, new flooring and new platform equipment.
