The St. Leonhard underground station (abbreviation: SL ) is the 24th  underground station of the Nuremberg underground and was opened on January 28, 1984. It is served by the U2 line and is 517 m from Schweinau underground station and 762 m from Rothenburger Straße underground station . The underground station is named after the Nuremberg district of Sankt Leonhard , which was incorporated in 1898 and in which it is located. It is used by around 12,200 passengers every day.

The station is located in the St. Leonhard district of Nuremberg and extends underground in a north-south direction under Schweinauer Strasse between Grünstrasse and Orffstrasse. From both ends of the platform, stairs lead directly into the pedestrian zone "Schweinauer Straße". An elevator connects the platform level with the surface.

Building and architecture

The station structure is 120 m long, 15 m wide and 6 m deep (single depth). The construction work began on July 1, 1980 and was carried out in the open construction method with Berlin shoring . Since the train station and the adjoining tunnel sections extend to the foundations of the surrounding houses, the entire structure was placed on a mass-spring system so that the vibrations of the underground trains are not transmitted to the surroundings.

The architecture of the station is based on the surrounding rows of houses through the cladding of the platform walls and the pillars with sandstone.
