Map of the Langwasser / Süd underground station

The Langwasser Süd underground station (abbreviation: LS ) was opened as the 1st  underground station on the Nuremberg underground on March 1, 1972. It is 442 m from the Gemeinschaftshaus underground station and is the terminus of the U1 line. In the original plans, this underground station had the working title Julius-Leber-Straße . Its current name goes back to its location on the southern edge of the Langwasser district of Nuremberg . It is used by around 8,600 passengers every day.

Location and infrastructure

The station is located in the Nuremberg district Langwasser and extends underground in northwest-southeast orientation northwest of the intersection Julius Liver / Imbusch- / Glogau road. The northern staircase leads to Glogauer Strasse, the staircase and elevator at the southern end of the platform lead to Julius-Leber-Strasse, the bus stop and the P + R facility . A 285-meter-long parking and sweeping system is attached to the station in the southeast .

Building and architecture

Construction work on the station building began in 1967 and was carried out using the cut-and-cover method. The elevator was retrofitted in 1984, the north exit in 2006 after tightened fire protection devices for tunnels.

The design of the station as a functional building corresponds to the style of the 1960s. The platform walls, tiled with ceramic tiles, are gray from the floor to the level of the platform edge and then white to the ceiling, only the strip with the stop name is in blue with white letters. The square ceiling supports are also tiled in white.
