São José dos Pinhais , officially Município de São José dos Pinhais , is a city in the state of Paraná in Brazil . It is located on the southern outskirts of Curitiba and is home to its Afonso Pena International airport .
history
The city, also abbreviated as SJP, was founded on January 8, 1853 under the name Villa de São José dos Pinhais (decree of July 8, 1852) and received city rights on December 27, 1897.
geography
São José dos Pinhais is a medium-sized town in the Paraná plateau and is located on the upper reaches of the Iguaçu . The population grew rapidly from around 196,000 in 2000 to over 260,000 in 2006 and had 264,210 inhabitants at the 2010 census.
climate
São José dos Pinhais has a humid subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of 16 ° C , a little cooler than Curitiba.
Due to the height of 906 meters above sea level, there are large daily temperature fluctuations (approx. 11 degrees ). In summer the temperature usually exceeds 30 ° C during the day, but drops to around 15 ° C at night, with an average summer temperature of 22 ° C. The city is the seat of the diocese of São José dos Pinhais, established in 2006 .
