The designation degree ( grd., Grd ) was the permitted designation for temperature differences in Germany until the end of 1974. It was mainly used in the technical measurement system and in cgs systems. A temperature difference of 1 degree means that the difference between two temperatures is 1 K.

Today, according to DIN 1345, only the unit Kelvin is recommended for specifying temperature differences in Germany . However, according to DIN 1301-1 , degrees Celsius may also be used when specifying differences in Celsius temperatures .

The notation Δ1 ° C does not conform to the standard and should therefore be avoided.
