Nissan Safari

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nissan Safari is a three-generation off-road vehicle by the automobile manufacturer Nissan , which was manufactured for the Japanese market from June 1980 to April 2004. It corresponded to the Nissan Patrol offered on the world market . For the export markets, Nissan continued to use the model name of its predecessor, as there would have been legal naming problems in some countries. For example, several automobile manufacturers had the Safari model name protected for their products. In France this was Citroën , which at the time used the name as an additional designation for station wagons. In Switzerland , the model name of Automobile Monteverdi was reserved for the Monteverdi Safari SUV. In Canada , the United States of America and Mexico, as well as in the countries of the Caribbean , the Volkswagen Type 181 held the naming rights of the Safari.

For many export markets, however, the Y61 is still being built as a Patrol, although a newer generation of Patrols, the Y62 , is available in other countries , but is no longer available in Japan itself.
