UD Trucks , formerly Nissan Diesel , is a Japanese manufacturer of diesel - trucks and buses .

history

Founded in 1935, Nippon Diesel Engineering Co. Ltd. built trucks with two-stroke diesel engines under the Krupp-Junkers license. In 1950 the name of the company was changed to Minsei Diesel Industries Ltd. and finally in 1960 in Nissan Diesel Motor Co. Ltd. Outside of Japan, the trucks are sometimes offered as Nissan UD (UD: Uniflow-scavenged Diesel or Ultimate Dependability ). In 1973 the production of vans for Nissan Motor began.

In 2006, Volvo initially acquired a 13% stake in Nissan Diesel, which was previously held by Nissan Motor . After buying a further 6% in 2006, Volvo made a takeover offer to the shareholders of Nissan Diesel in March 2007 and in this way was able to acquire a further 77% of the company's shares for SEK 7.4 billion, making the Volvo Group wholly owned by Nissan since 2007 Diesel. In 2010 the brand name was changed to UD Trucks Corporation.
