The Nissan GT-R LM Nismo was a hybrid sports car developed and built by Nissan Motorsports International - prototype according to LMP1 regulations . The car took part in the 2015 Le Mans 24-hour race , which was part of the FIA World Endurance Championship .

history

On May 23, 2014, Nissan announced that it would be participating in the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship with two Nissan GT-R LM Nismo vehicles . An additional third car is to be launched for the 2015 Le Mans 24-hour race . The car is to stand out from the LMP1 vehicles from Audi , Toyota and Porsche with a new concept . Nissan presented the first pictures of the car in a commercial during the halftime break of the Super Bowl XLIX on February 1, 2015.

After the GT-R LM Nismo only completed the Le Mans 24-hour race in the 2015 season and no vehicle was included in this race after poor training performance, Nissan announced in December 2015 that it would withdraw from LMP1.

technology

The vehicle's monocoque is a closed sandwich construction made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic . The windshield is made of polycarbonate with a hard material coating .

The car is powered by a 3.0-liter V-six-cylinder petrol engine with twin turbo charging and direct injection . Power is transmitted via a sequential five-speed gearbox . In contrast to the other LMP1 vehicles, the engine is not behind, but in front of the driver and drives the front wheels, while the electric motor is supposed to drive the rear wheels. The transmission is way ahead. The exhaust gases are discharged on the sides of the bonnet. The vehicle is equipped with 16-inch rims all around. Because of the weight of the engine in front of the driver and because of the front-wheel drive, the car has 13 inch wide rims with 360 mm tire width, while the rims on the rear axle are only nine inches wide and the tire width is 230 mm.

Races

Contrary to the original plan, Nissan did not contest the entire 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship with the GT-R LM Nismo . The car's monocoque failed an FIA crash test, whereupon Nissan had to modify the chassis. Nissan announced that the car would not drive the first two races of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship and that it would make its racing debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Here Nissan also competed with three vehicles, only one of which reached the finish line, but was not rated because of the large backlog after various technical problems. These technical problems were primarily caused by the hybrid propulsion system and were so severe that Nissan skipped the rest of the championship season's races as well.
