Children's Union

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A children's union is an organized group or union in which working children and young people actively and collectively stand up for their own rights. In general, the organization is created with external support, for example from a non-governmental organization .

Structures of this kind have emerged in many countries.

Many similar developments have taken place in Africa since the 1990s with support for children's rights groups. The first groups were formed with the help of the non-governmental organization Enda Tiers Monde , which has been running educational projects for children and young people in Africa since the 1980s. Pedagogical staff, so-called animators ( animateurs ), support the children and young people in formulating their own problems, interests and solutions. The objectives are to strengthen their self-confidence, to mobilize public opinion and to work for decent working conditions. Organized children and young people also include many girls employed in private households, who in some groups represent the majority of organized children and young people. In most cities, the structures consist of local, largely autonomous grassroots groups, an organization at the urban level and a supra-regional, international network.

In Latin America too , such as Peru , Brazil and Nicaragua , similar developments are emerging in which children and young people take on a role as actors; however, some of them are still at an early stage.

Similar developments are taking place in India . In Delhi, for example, children organized in the children's union Bal Mazdoor ( Bal Mazdoor Sangh ), some of whom are 14 and older, i.e. young people in the German sense, but most of them are under 14. The group sees itself as a union of working street children . The children and young people received help from the Indian non-governmental organization “Butterflies”, a program for street children in Delhi. While the group z. In cases where children did not get their wages or were beaten, they succeeded, with the help of the non-governmental organization, so that they could open a tea stand together in Delhi. Another Indian children's union, Bhima Sangha , came into being in Bangalore in the early 1990s .
