Herbert Keppler

Herbert "Burt" Keppler (born April 21, 1925 in New York ; † January 4, 2008 in Croton-on-Hudson , New York ) was an American photo reporter , editor and camera developer.

Life

Keppler, son of the photographer and illustrator Victor Keppler , studied at Harvard University and served in the US Navy at the end of World War II . After working for various newspapers and trade magazines, he joined the newly founded magazine Modern Photography in 1950 . Until 1987 he worked for the magazine, which under his direction became one of the leading press products in the field of photography. He then moved to Popular Photography as Vice President .

In addition to his journalistic activities, Keppler devoted himself to the further development of photo cameras. He is assigned an important role in the development of the Japanese photo industry. As a regular visitor to the country, he advised the companies located there and many of his ideas helped the products to achieve high quality and reputation.

In 1985 Keppler was inducted into the Photo Marketing Hall of Fame and six years later he was honored for his life's work by the Photographic Manufacturers and Distributors Association . He was one of the few foreigners to be honored by the Tennō . He received the Order of the Holy Treasure 4th degree in 2002 .
