The first generation Mitsubishi Dignity was produced from late 1999 to March 2001. The Dignity, named after the English word for dignity , was based on the wheelbase of the Mitsubishi Proudia I, which was extended by 25 cm to 308 cm, and was the flagship of the Mitsubishi model range. Proudia and Dignity were developed together with the South Korean company Hyundai , which marketed its own version as Hyundai Equus between 1999 and 2009. The Dignity was powered by a 4.5 liter 90 ° aluminum V8 that developed 206 kW (280 hp) with direct injection . In order to offer the rear passengers in particular more space, the roof was raised by one centimeter compared to the Proudia. Proudia and Dignity of the first generation only stayed in the program for 15 months, as Mitsubishi was forced to stop building the models due to financial problems in order to reduce costs and purify its model range. The car had a CCD camera for the lane departure warning and the lane change assistant , and lidar - adaptive cruise control , multi-link axle with air suspension , level control and electronic damper control.
