The Mitsubishi Jeep is an off-road vehicle built by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Mitsubishi Motors from 1953 to 1998.

Model history

In 1952 Mitsubishi reached an agreement with the US owner of the Jeep brand , Willys-Overland , for the Japanese production of the Jeep CJ-3B off-road vehicle under license .

After assembling around 550 units from CKD kits, Mitsubishi went over to completely in-house production of the Mitsubishi Jeep in 1953. Open and closed models were offered on a short wheelbase and a closed four-door model on a long wheelbase.

The model remained in the Japanese range until the late 1990s. It was intended exclusively for the domestic market and, according to the license conditions, could not be exported.
