To the context
In 2007 there were numerous SUV types on the market; but most of them were significantly larger and heavier than the Mitsubishi Concept-cX. Some examples:
- the VW Tiguan (since 2007): over 4.40 m long
- the Toyota RAV4 (2006-2013) was 4.44 m long
- the Nissan Qashqai (2006-2013) was 4.32 to 4.54 m long
Later some significantly shorter and lighter SUVs appeared, for example
- 2009 the Skoda Yeti (4.22 m)
- 2010 the Mitsubishi ASX (4.30 m)
- In 2012 the Opel Mokka (4.28 m) and in 2013 the almost identical Buick Encore and Chevrolet Trax
- 2013 the Peugeot 2008 I (4.16 m)
These vehicles have stylistic elements of off-road vehicles, but are only partially suitable for off-road use. They are called soft roaders or 'compact SUVs'.
