The Mitsubishi Sigma is a mid-range vehicle manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors from October 1990 to October 1996 . It is the sister model of the Mitsubishi Diamante . The Sigma is designed as a sedan, the Diamante as a so-called hardtop according to the American understanding - with frameless windows. A similar combination existed before with the Galant E10 and the Sapporo E16 . The Sigma and Diamante models were sold in parallel in Japan. In North America you could only buy the Diamante, in Europe only the Sigma.
history
In Europe, the Sigma was initially only available as a sedan with two different 3-liter V6 engines - a 12-valve engine with 130 kW (177 hp) and a 24-valve engine with 151 kW (205 hp). The maximum speed is around 230 km / h.
From June 1992 a 4.8 m long combination variant imported from Australia was offered. It was the first car from this continent officially offered in Germany. The station wagon was only offered with the 12-valve engine in a variant throttled to 125 kW (170 hp). In the top version, the Sigma had some technical refinements such as an electronically adjustable chassis and all-wheel steering . From 1995, was laser - adaptive cruise control available (in Japan).
As the sister model of the Sigma, the Diamante had a number of innovative systems and was therefore ahead of its time:
- an advanced version of traction control (TCL)
- All-wheel steering
- semi- active chassis (Dynamic ECS)
- GPS navigation system with color screen on the center console
- Head-up display ;
- Adaptive cruise control / lane departure warning with lidar and front camera (first in 1992 in the Debonair );
- the world's first five-speed automatic for cars with transversely installed engines and transmissions, complete with INVECS-II software logic and manual shift gate
The same engine was installed in the Mitsubishi 3000 GT and in the sister model Dodge Stealth. Two Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) TD04-9B (USA and Japan) and TD04-13G (Europe and Australia) turbochargers were used to increase performance . The power output was 210 kW (286 hp).
In the six years of construction, 10,407 copies were registered in Germany.
