The Corona Mark II was established in 1967 by the Japanese car manufacturer Toyopet , or later Toyota , above the Corona . In the 1980s, the model name was shortened and a separate model series was formed under the name Mark II .

With the introduction of the new 'Corona Mark II, Toyota introduced a model between Corona and Toyota Crown in 1967 .
The Corona Mark II was available as a four-door and five-door notchback sedan, as a five-door station wagon and as a pickup. The sport versions had the additional designation GSS , but were not a separate model series. The basic model, on the other hand, were the 1600 models. The Golden Series models were in the middle .
The following motor selection was available:
- 7R with a displacement of around 1600 cc and an output of 85 hp
- 7R-B with a displacement of about 1600 cm³ and an output of 100 hp
- 8R-G with a displacement of around 1800 cm³ and an output of 115 hp (only Golden Series and GSS )
In 1970, after a facelift, additional engines were added to the range. So there were now engines with a displacement of 1.7 l. For the GSS versions there was even a 2.2-L.
Toyota carried out another facelift in March 1971. However, this was only produced in series with the new 1900 model and was nicknamed the Eagle Mask . The Corona Mark II remained in production until August 1973 .

In February 1972, the X10 generation was established as a potential attack by the Nissan Skyline GT . As with its predecessor, there were two forms of the notchback sedan, station wagons and also the pickup. The coupé model with the designation GSS , which was dropped in the other model variants, was new .
The following engines were available for the X10 from February 1972:
- 6R with a displacement of about 1700 cm³
- 18R with a displacement of about 2000 cm³ (4-cylinder engine)
- 18R-G with a displacement of about 2000 cm³ (6-cylinder engine; only in the GSS)
The model range was expanded in May. There were also the L versions for the notchback sedans and the station wagon. In the sports segment, on the other hand, the 2000GSL-EFI variant (125 hp) with electronic fuel injection was added. This was particularly evident in the station wagon which was very popular.
After the T60 generation was discontinued in August 1973, Toyota established even cheaper versions of the Toyopet / Toyota Corona Mark II , which were now also exported to Europe and North America. The GSS, however, was also sold in Africa, Australia and South America. The new low-cost model replaced the original L-model and now differentiated itself as L , LA , LG and LX . New engines, specially developed for this model, were now also available. The basic version of the L engine was an engine with around 1600 cm³. A 1700 cm³ engine was also available as an option. The LG variant was only equipped with the LG EFI , which had six cylinders and electronic injection. The 16R was offered as the top engine for the low-cost models .
A year later, strict emissions standards followed that the Corona Mark II could not meet. To make this possible, Toyota had to lengthen the engine compartment by 55 millimeters. So there was finally space to install filters and catalysts without any problems.
Toyota established other models in December of the same year. The new entry-level or basic model now had the abbreviation STD for standard. However, this was only established in the notchback sedans. The GL was now ranked one step higher . This was offered for both the notchback sedans and the station wagons. As a GL, the model was also available as a hardtop and was the low-cost version of the expensive GSS. The latter was discontinued in October 1975. In June 1976, a hardtop coupé based on the five-door notchback sedan was released for a short time. In this case, however, only the 18R (4-cylinder) was used. The discontinued GSS was also launched in a limited edition, which was called Tuck Panther in the export version and は ウ ル ト ラ マ ン エ ー ス (Ultraman Ace) in the domestic market . The Ultraman Ace version offered on the home market , however, represented an independent model series.
In December 1976 the next generation was launched.

The third generation Corona Mark II is only predominantly reserved for the East Asian region. The sister model Cressida was launched in Europe and America .
The new model was created using current design structures from the USA . The current model competed domestically against Vauxhall , Mazda and Chrysler . In Australia and New Zealand, Chevrolet and Holden were also serious opponents. In Japan, the new style was initially made fun of and the US-style vehicles were nicknamed pig-eye carts .
Important technical innovations were the shock-absorbing bumper and the four-wheel independent suspension.
The engine selection for the X30 was initially limited to the 8R-G with a displacement of around 1800 cm³ and an output of 115 hp and the 18R with a displacement of around 2000 cm³.
The first changes were made in September 1978. The construction of the sedans, station wagons and hardtop versions were overhauled. In order to differentiate the previous version from the current one, Toyota decided to install a new front grille. The combination models of the previous version were ordered at the same time in a recall campaign to convert a faulty lighting system with a reliable one. Toyota has also expanded its engine range for Australia and New Zealand. Now the older 2.0-l had been replaced by a newer engine version. For GS and GT models, a 2.6-liter engine ( 4M ) was also available, which should assert itself against the American big blocks.
Without any further changes, the current models remained in production until October 1980 and were finally replaced by a new generation.

The Corona Mark II was renewed in October 1980 together with its sister model Cressida in sash design .
Engine selection October 1980 to October 1981 :
In October 1981 the M-TEU with a displacement of around 2000 cm³ was added to the engine range. A year later, in August 1982, the 1G-GEU with 160 hp was adapted. The 5M-EU , however, has deleted Toyota from the program.
Engine selection August 1982 to February 1983 :
Electrically retractable exterior mirrors have been added as standard to all model versions of the Corona Mark II . Mirror heating and airbags were still optional.
The taxi versions (SX60), on the other hand, were converted to LPG vehicles as standard from this point in time . Two interior versions were now available. The basic version was named 2Y . The better equipped version, on the other hand, was identified by a golden crown between the windows and a symbol on the tailgate.
Thereafter, the Corona Mark II was built unchanged until August 1984. Then the name was shortened due to pressure from the press and the model series was continued as the Toyota Mark II .
