The Terios Kid (Japanese: テ リ オ ス キ ッ ド) is an SUV from the Japanese manufacturer Daihatsu . This was introduced in some markets in 1998 and is based on the first generation of the Daihatsu Terios . Other sister models are the Toyota Cami and the Dario Terios .

history

The Terios Kid was introduced in 1998 to appeal to young customers. In contrast to the Daihatsu Terios and the Dario Terios, the model was kept shorter and was given a sports package that emphasized the vehicle's popup design. The model is a direct competitor of the Mitsubishi Pajero Mini and was once a competitor of the Mitsubishi Pajero iQ .

With the Terios Kid, the buyer can choose between two different gasoline engines , each with a displacement of 600 cm³. There is a choice between an EF-DEM - with 45 kW / 60 hp or 47 kW / 63 PS strong EF-DET -Motor. The basic equipment of the Terios Kid includes ABS, switchable all-wheel drive, turbocharger, additional engine cooler, secured and non-flammable lines, air conditioning and radio with cassette compartment or CD player, if desired.

After several serious accidents in which the Terios Kid was involved, the company received many reports about various defects and weak points on the body. These were finally completely eliminated by Daihatsu in November 2000.

In 2002, the Terios Kid was first subjected to various crash tests and individual parts inspection by the Japanese Ministry of Infrastructure, Transportation and Road Safety . The Terios Kid was awarded a total of five stars for the safety of the passenger compartment . The six-star rank was narrowly missed, as the model received a point deduction due to the inadequate safety of the driver's seat. However, the passenger seat and the rear bench seat had received the maximum possible number of points.

In August 2006 the Terios Kid underwent a general technical overhaul in order to bring the model up to the current state of the art. There were no changes to the design, interior or special equipment. These mainly related to the engine area and the wheel suspension.
