history

Niefang was first mentioned in a document in 1474. The hamlet belonged to the knighthood of Rumburg Castle and came to the Eichstätt Monastery in 1546 . Of some importance were to the 19th century the Niefanger iron ore mines in which the open pit bean ore and limonite were obtained. This “Marienzeche” supplied iron ore to the Obereichstätt ironworks in the Altmühltal until 1868 . After the First World War , the pits were reopened and a 25 m deep shaft was created; the ore extracted had an iron content of 45 percent and was processed in the Luitpoldhütte in Amberg . However, after a few years, mining was abandoned. The road from Erlingshofen to Niefanger Berg was paved as part of the Erlingshofen land consolidation (1963–1966).

The hamlet belonged to the municipality of Enkering until 1971 and became part of the large municipality of Kinding with the regional reform .

In 1830 12, 1875 22, 1912 16, 1973 23, 1983 24, 1996 21 and 2009 17 people lived here in two rural properties and some residential buildings.
