The first generation, which was sold from 2006 to 2012, is the notchback version of the Chevrolet Celta and is thus based on the same GM4200 platform . The model was priced between the cheaper Chevrolet Classic (on the same platform) and the more modern Chevrolet Corsa Sedan ( Gamma platform ). Initially, two equipment variants were offered: Joy (basic equipment) and Maxx (comfort equipment).

In the last model year, the Prisma received a facelift at the same time as the Celta . From this point on, the model, like the Chevrolet Vectra , had a chrome strip across the tailgate and from now on bore the Chevrolet logo without a ring.

Like the Chevrolet Onix , the second generation, which has been available since spring 2013, is based on the Gamma II platform . Compared to this, however, it has an extended basic configuration. The new four-cylinder engines are now optionally connected to a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission . The air conditioning has been part of the standard equipment since model year 2015 .

The model received a facelift in 2016, but the old model is still available as Prisma Joy .

In Colombia, the vehicle has been available as the Chevrolet Onix Sedán since 2018.

In the home market, too, the name has since been changed to Onix Plus based on the notchback model.
