Second facelift (2011)

The model was developed on the basis of the first generation of the Chevrolet Corsa  - a badge engineering variant of the Opel Corsa B - and came onto the market in September 2000. It was the first model to be manufactured in GM's new plant in Gravataí . On the Argentine market, the model was initially offered as Suzuki Fun . The name was later changed to Chevrolet Celta. In the first model years, only a three-door version was available. At the same time, the second generation of the Corsa was introduced as a higher-quality alternative.

From 2005 the Celta was also available as a five-door model. It was revised for the first time in the 2006 model year . The front headlights and the radiator grille were changed and the license plate holder was moved from the rear bumper to the tailgate. In the same year, the notchback version of the Celta, the Prisma , went into production. Another facelift followed in 2011, in which the global Chevrolet logo is now used. In addition, the equipment lines in most markets were from now on - as usual at Chevrolet - with letter combinations instead of names as before.

In 2013 the mark of 1.5 million units produced was exceeded.

In the last few model years, the number of versions was restricted. In the end, only the five-door model was available with - depending on the market - a 1.0 or 1.4 liter engine in LT or Advantage equipment.

technology

The model is based on the GM4200 platform . It was specially designed as a simple and inexpensive entry-level model, so that many equipment features that were still standard on the Corsa (e.g. ABS ) were not available or only available at an additional cost. As a result, the Celta reached in from Latin NCAP carried out crash test one out of five stars in the review of the safety of adults and two out of five stars in the review of the safety of children.

While the body was changed to create a distinct appearance, the floor pan and chassis correspond exactly to the Corsa B with independent suspension and MacPherson struts at the front and twist beam axle at the rear.

Rear view, second facelift

Initially, only a 1.0-liter gasoline engine was available. A 1.4-liter engine was later also offered and the 1.0-liter engine was converted to ethanol fuel for the Brazilian market ( Flexible Fuel Vehicle ). Airbag and ABS were available from model year 2014.
